Some Central Florida schools to remain open Tuesday ahead of Idalia

Major University Closures:

UCF: Unaffected at this time.

USF: All classes are canceled and all campuses are closed on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30.

UF: UF classes canceled, campus closed at noon Tuesday and will remain closed Wednesday.

FSU: Tallahassee campus closed and classes canceled Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Bethune-Cookman University: Classes will pivot to online starting Wednesday, Aug. 30 through Friday, Sept. 1.
The University closed their offices at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 29. The Dining Hall will close Tuesday evening at 4:00 p.m. Students will still be able to pick up their meals.
School Closings by County:
Orange

Orange County schools will remain open for a full day on Tuesday, Aug. 29, ahead of Idalia. School officials will decide later Monday evening whether to cancel after-school activities for Tuesday and classes on Wednesday.
Brevard

Not closures announced yet.
Osceola

School will still be in session for a full day Tuesday, Aug. 29, school officials announced. However, all after-school activities and sporting events scheduled for tomorrow are canceled. A decision on the status of school on Wednesday will be made later Monday evening, officials said.
Lake

Lake County public schools will remain open on Tuesday, Aug. 29. However, all after-school events will be canceled out of an abundance of caution. Schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, Aug. 30, with Villages Elementary and Lost Lake Elementary being used as storm shelters. Schools are expected to reopen on Thursday, Aug. 31.
Marion

Marion County Public Schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday because of storm Idalia. All extra-curricular activities Monday are canceled with the exception of Marion Afterschool Programs. Students will not have to make up these missed days. The following schools will be transitioned into shelters for local residents and storm evacuees.

The school district announced students will have early dismissal on Tuesday, Aug. 29, while classes are canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.
