School districts announce early dismissals, eLearning days ahead of Idalia
On Tuesday, school districts started announcing class schedules as Hurricane Idalia churned closer to land.
The powerful storm is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee late Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.
The following districts have announced schedule changes:
Horry County Schools:
Wednesday, August 30 – All extracurricular activities will be canceled, practices may be scheduled to take place on school campuses if weather permits.
Thursday, August 31 – All HCS facilities will be closed for students, HCS will operate on Thursday with an eLearning day for all students. School staff members will provide directions for students regarding Thursday’s eLearning day. Thursday’s extracurricular activities will be canceled.
Florence County School District 3:
Wednesday, August 30 – Lake City Early Childhood Center, J.C. Lynch Elementary, Olanta Creative Arts & Science Magnet, Scranton Elementary STEAM Academy will dismiss at 11 a.m., Main Street Elementary at 11:10 a.m., Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High at 11:45 a.m., J. Paul Truluck Creative Arts & Science Magnet at 11:50 a.m. and Lake City High School will dismiss at 12 p.m.
Thursday, August 31 – eLearning Day; schools will provide students with assignments either in Google Classroom or as printed-paper worksheets.
Florence County School District 2:
Wednesday, August 30 – will operate on a half-day schedule and will dismiss at 11:30 a.m.
Thursday, August 31 – eLearning Day; students may contact their teachers via email or Google Classroom if they require instructional assistance during this eLearning event.
Florence County School District 5:
Wednesday, August 30 – Schools will operate on a half-day schedule.
Thursday, August 31 – eLearning Day, no students or staff report to school.
Friday, September 1 – Will remain as a scheduled teacher workday.
Georgetown County School District:
Wednesday, August 30 – Normal operations, but all afterschool activities and programs are canceled
Thursday, August 31 – eLearning Day; if conditions allow, athletic practices will resume at 3:30 p.m.; all athletic competitions are canceled and/or postponed
Latta School District (Dillon School District Three):
Wednesday, August 30 – will operate on a half-day schedule
Thursday, August 31 – eLearning Day
Dillon 4 Schools:
Wednesday, August 30 – will operate on a half-day schedule
Thursday, August 31 – eLearning Day
Marlboro County School District:
Wednesday, August 30 – will operate on a half-day schedule
Thursday, August 31 – 2-hour delay for classes
Public Schools of Robeson County:
Wednesday, August 30 – Preparing for an early dismissal but not yet announced. All after-school activities are canceled
Thursday, August 31 – Schools will be closed
