Northern High School delaying opening of new school
Durham Public Schools (DPS) announced Tuesday it will delay the opening of Northern High School.
The school district cited limited access to the school from storms on Aug. 15 as the reason for the delay.
The district’s year-round and specialty high schools were closed for two days after severe weather knocked down trees and power lines in Durham County.
According to a release from DPS, the brand-new high school will open on Aug. 31, with an open house scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 29.
The school, located at 4622 North Roxboro Road, moved from its previous location at 117 Tom Wilkinson Road, which opened in 1953.
DPS said it received a temporary certificate of occupancy, which allows 10 staff members in the building at a time to prepare classrooms.
