La Crosse Central High School closed until further notice
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Central High School was evacuated on Wednesday after the La Crosse Fire Department responded to an electrical fire.
The fire broke out inside an air handling room on the first floor. According to battalion chief Lance Tryggestad, around 200 people were inside the building during the fire for a summer basketball league. Everyone evacuated safely, the department confirmed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The School District of La Crosse announced Wednesday night there will be no access to the school for students, staff and community members until further notice.
Safety inspections will occur at the school throughout the week.
