The Department is deeply grateful for the outpouring of generosity and support toward the recovery of our West Maui school communities. The state, county and community have been working tirelessly to coordinate efforts of contributions from the community, ensuring that the immediate needs of those impacted are met.
At this time, the most impactful way we can support our friends and family on Maui is through monetary donations. While damages and longer term needs are still being assessed, monetary support will allow for flexibility within the ongoing response efforts — to help those who need it most, when they need it most. See below for different ways that you can help the impacted Maui communities.
Direct monetary donations for West Maui school communities
The Public Schools of Hawai‘i Foundation (PSHF) is partnering with the Hawai‘i State Department of Education to support our public school communities impacted by the destructive wildfires on Maui.
The most immediate need and request from our Maui schools is for monetary donations that can provide direct support for response efforts.
All monetary donations in support of this effort received by PSHF from Aug. 7, 2023 through Oct. 1, 2023 will be designated solely for Maui public schools affected by the wildfire disaster. Tax deductible credit card contributions may be made online or via check payable to Public Schools of Hawai‘i Foundation and mailed to P. O. Box 4148 Honolulu, Hawaii 96812.

In-kind offers of support for West Maui school communities
For those interested in making other in-kind offers of support to West Maui school communities, please complete and submit this Maui donation-gift intake form. General Maui Disaster Relief Support
General disaster relief donations, mass donation, or volunteer inquiries for the Maui wildfires can be coordinated through the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA) at Ready.Hawaii.Gov. For more information email [email protected] or call (808) 733-4300.
The Hawai‘i Community Foundation has established a Maui Strong Fund to support the communities affected by the wildfires on Maui with resources for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. For questions or additional information, email [email protected] or call (808) 566-5560.
The Maui United Way has created the Maui Fire Disaster Relief that will go directly to efforts supporting victims of the fires. Donations can be made here.
The Hawai‘i Red Cross is seeking volunteers and donations to continue disaster relief efforts for the wildfires. Sign up to volunteer by visiting redcross.org/VolunteerToday or donate to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund by visiting redcross.org or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) has a match donation fund, Kākoʻo Maui, and is accepting monetary donations on-line or in-person from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the CNHA headquarters at 91-1270 Kinoʻiki Street, Kapolei. Checks may be written out to “Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement” with a memo “Kākoʻo Maui.” 100% of proceeds will go to Maui organizations to support relief efforts.
