Lowcountry Schools, Governments announce schedule changes

In light of Tropical Storm Nicole, schools and governments in the Lowcountry have announced changes to their schedules.
Here is the latest list:
Schools & Colleges
Beaufort County School District
Beaufort County schools will have a remote e-Learning day on Thursday as all district buildings will be closed. Schools will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day. All extracurricular activities and after-school programs scheduled for Wednesday will continue as usual.
Berkeley County School District
Berkeley County Schools will operate with eLearning on Friday. All schools and district offices will be closed. Before and after-school care programs, activities and athletics are canceled for Friday.
Students will complete eLearning assignments from home via Schoology, Google Classroom, SeeSaw, or other designated virtual learning platforms. Specific information about assignments will be provided by the student’s teacher and/or school. Teachers will share information regarding their office hours to support students completing eLearning assignments at home.
Charleston County School District
All Charleston County schools will switch to eLearning Friday. The district says school and district buildings will be closed, except for “essential personnel.” A select number of schools in downtown Charleston are moving to an eLearning day Thursday. The schools that will be affected are:
Buist Academy
Burke High School
Charleston Charter School for Math and Science
Charleston Development Academy
Charleston Progressive Academy
Early College High School
James Simons Montessori School
Julian Mitchell Elementary School
Memminger Elementary School
Sanders-Clyde Elementary School
Simmons-Pinckney Middle School.
All district buildings downtown will be closed Thursday. Only afterschool programs in the downtown area of the district scheduled for Thursday are canceled, including Kaleidoscope. Magnet bus transportation from downtown to Military Magnet Academy, School of the Arts, Academic Magnet High School, Septima P. Clark Academy, Daniel Jenkins Academy and Liberty Hill Academy may have limited bus stops. Check the district’s website for specific information.
Charleston Southern University
The university will remain on a normal schedule for most of Thursday. However, on-campus classes after 6 p.m. will be canceled on Thursday. All classes will resume normal instruction on Friday.
Colleton County School District
Students in the Colleton County School District will have a half day on Thursday, Nov. 10, and all after-school activities and scheduled events are canceled. Friday, Nov. 11 will be an eLearning day. School buildings and district offices will be closed. All activities, athletic events and field trips are canceled and will be rescheduled.
Dorchester School District Two
Dorchester School District Two will be implementing an eLearning day on Friday, Nov. 11. School and district buildings will be closed, and all after-school activities have been canceled.
Schedule for eLearning on Nov. 11:
9 a.m. – Lessons and assignments must be posted
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Office hours
11 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Lunch for students and teachers
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. – Office hours
Note: Parents and students can contact teachers for help during teachers’ office hours via email or other district communication tools. Lessons will be asynchronous, which allows students to learn on their own schedule. Students are expected to complete assignments before they return to school on Nov. 14.
Dorchester School District Four
Dorchester School District Four will transition to an eLearning day for students on Friday. Additionally, all after-school activities have been canceled for Thursday and Friday.
The district says normal schedules may resume Monday after an assessment of schools and roads.
Georgetown County School District
The district has a scheduled half day on Friday and will follow normal operations. Students at elementary schools will be dismissed at 11 a.m., intermediate school students at 11:15 a.m., and middle/high school students at noon.
Orangeburg County School District
The Orangeburg County School District has canceled after-school activities for Thursday. The district will also move to an eLearning day on Friday and all district buildings and schools will be closed. The district says all scheduled athletic activities will be rescheduled for Saturday.
Palmetto Christian Academy
Palmetto Christian Academy will be closed on Friday.
South Carolina State University
South Carolina State University campus will close on Friday. All classes have been Friday canceled. Only essential personnel should report to campus, but all other staff are directed to work remotely. The university will return to a normal schedule on Monday.
Students who remain on campus Friday should expect to shelter in their residence halls during the storm’s peak periods while staying away from windows. In the event of emergencies, students and employees are advised to call the Campus Police at 803-536-7188 or dial 911.
S.C. State officials are continuing to monitor projections for Hurricane Nichole’s possible effects on South Carolina and the Orangeburg area in particular.
As the situation evolves, the college will inform students, employees and the community about any other schedule changes or precautionary measures over the next few days.
Trident Technical College
All Trident Tech campuses will be closed Thursday and Friday. Classes will be moved to a virtual format. Campuses will reopen and the college will resume normal operations on Saturday.
Williamsburg County School District
The district will not have after-school or extra-curricular activities Thursday or Friday.
Government Offices and Agencies
Many local government offices are already scheduled to be closed because of Veterans Day observances.
Beaufort County Government
All county government officers will be closed on Thursday.
Charleston International Airport
Charleston International Airport is urging flyers to check with their respective airlines for flight cancelations or delays. The airport says any announcement regarding runway closures will be announced on its social media pages.
Tropical Storm Nicole became the 14th named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season on Monday. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and winds to the Lowcountry through Friday.
Georgetown City Government
Georgetown’s Veterans Parade has been canceled for Friday because of the weather.
Goose Creek City Government
Friday’s Goose Creek Veterans Day ceremony will be moved to American Legion Post 166, located at 116 Howe Hall Road. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.
North Charleston City Government
Offices will be closed because of Veterans Day.
Walterboro City Government
City Court will not be held Thursday.
