Hurricane Ian school closings in Central Florida

Hurricane Ian is expected to hit Florida as a powerful storm and school districts are keeping a close eye on how the weather will impact plans.
Lake County
Lake County School District is releasing early Tuesday with no school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Beacon College has canceled classes on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and Thursday Sept. 28
Marion County
Officials announced Marion County Schools would be closed Wednesday through Friday. According to Marion County Public Schools, all campuses will reopen Monday.
Flagler County
Flagler County Schools Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt announces all schools will be closed beginning Wednesday, Sept. 28 due to the impending effects of Hurricane Ian. They will remain closed through Friday, Sept. 30.
Orange County
Orange County Publics Schools: Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 27, all after-school extracurricular activities are canceled except for extended day which will be open until 6 p.m. Beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 28, all schools and facilities will be closed and extracurricular activities will be canceled through Friday, Sept. 30.
Rollins College is closing campus at 12 p.m. Wednesday and will be closed Thursday and Friday for damage assessment. Beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, residential halls will be closed.
Full Sail University will be closing Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Thursday, Sept. 29. The university said they expect to reopen campus Friday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. depending on the impact of Hurricane Ian. The virtual graduation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 29 is canceled along with the in-person graduation ceremony set for Friday.
Classes at University of Central Florida are canceled Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Saturday, Oct. 1. UCF said they are reviewing plans for resuming operations and plan to release an update on Friday, Sept. 30.
From FAMU: At the College of Law in Orlando, classes are canceled Wednesday through Friday. Operations are closed Wednesday and Thursday and resume on Friday.
The College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Central Florida Pharmacy Practice Tampa/Orlando sites will be closed Tuesday through Friday. All student pharmacy practice rotations are excused during the closures.
Brevard County
All Brevard Public Schools and District offices will be closed beginning Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, through Friday, Sept. 30, due to Hurricane Ian. All school activities, events, and programs for those days are canceled.
A Florida Tech classes will meet remotely via Canvas and Zoom on Wednesday, Sept. 28. All classes are canceled on Thursday, Sept. 29, and Friday, Sept. 30. Students, faculty and staff should take all necessary steps to ensure their personal safety.
Eastern Florida State College will cancel classes, including those online, on Wednesday, Sept. 28, through Friday, Sept. 30. All campuses will be closed and all events are canceled on those days.
Osceola County
All Osceola District Public Schools will be closed Sept. 27, 28, 29 and 30 due to Hurricane Ian. All school activities, events, and programs scheduled for these days are canceled.
Polk County
Polk County Public Schools will be closed due to Hurricane Ian on Tuesday (Sept. 27), Wednesday (Sept. 28) and Thursday (Sept. 29). The district must close schools, so district staff have time to work with emergency personnel to prepare schools serving as shelters.
Polk State College will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 28, and Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022.
Seminole County
Seminole County Public Schools will be closed for all students and staff beginning Wednesday, Sept. 28, and continuing through Friday, Sept. 30.
Seminole State is closing early, at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. Classes are canceled Wednesday and Thursday.
Sumter County
Sumter District Schools will have early dismissal on Tuesday, Sept. 27, and will be closed on Sept. 28, 29 and 30 (due to Hurricane Ian).
Volusia County
All Volusia District Public Schools and District offices will be closed for three days (Sept. 28, 29 and 30) due to Hurricane Ian.
Bethune–Cookman University in Daytona Beach has issued a mandatory evacuation order for its campus, effective noon Monday.
Stetson said undergraduate classes at DeLand campus are canceled Wednesday-Friday, Sept. 28-30. Graduate classes in the College of Arts and Sciences are also canceled Wednesday-Friday.
Daytona State College will cancel classes beginning Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Thursday, Sept. 29.
Multiple school systems in the Tampa area have also been impacted.
